Udaipur – A City of Palaces & Lakes

We all know that Udaipur is the city of Lakes and Palaces in India. Its often referred to as the 'Venice of the East', the city of lakes Udaipur is located around azure water lakes and is hemmed in by lush green hills of Aravallis. The famous Lake Palace, located in the middle of Lake Pichola is one of the most beautiful sights of Udaipur. It is also home to Jaisamand Lake, claimed to be the second largest man-made sweet water lake in Asia. The beautiful City Palace and Sajjangarh (Monsoon Palace) add to the architectural beauty and grandeur of the city. The city is also known for its profusion of zinc and marble. Solar observatory in Lake Fateh Sagar is the only observatory in India located on an island and has been made on the pattern of Big Bear Lake in Southern California. The ten-day Shilpgram Festival which starts from 21 Dec to 30 Dec pulls in a large number of people interested in arts and crafts.

Udaipur was founded in 1553 by Maharana Udai Singh II as the new capital of Mewar Kingdom. It is located in the fertile, circular Girwa Valley to the southwest of Nagda, which was the first capital of Mewar.

It doesn’t matter how many countries you visit, you’ll always have a special place in your heart for your own. It always has and will be “Mera Bharat Mahan”. And when it comes to a place you grew up carrying loads of memories to cherish forever, it automatically occupies that soft corner of your soul.

Cherry on the top, to have been brought up in a city filled with eternal beauty and everything magical around, it becomes a blessing in disguise for you to even be its minutest part.

So to describe it, a place, which is famous for its Rajput-era palaces and scenic locations, a place which is on the bucket list of so many tourists, a place where many plan their dream destination weddings, a place that carries a wide history and culture with it and is known by the names the City of Lakes, Venice of the East, and the Kashmir of Rajasthan. You are right; it is none other than, Udaipur, the city where my heart lies.

Here I am going to share my personal experience that I have observed during visit and stay in best Hotel in Udaipur.

So, I chose my trip to Udaipur. We were tourists then, not travellers and went where the crowds beckoned us. I still remember the day we boarded the mid night Air India flight to Delhi from Lucknow. We stayed in the airport to pick up the connecting flight to Udaipur. I have read and heard about the several legends of kings and queens in Indian history. I had imagined Udaipur as filled with beautiful palaces, where time stood still with dashing Rajawat princes brandishing their swords and brave princesses sweeping the men off their feet.

The first thing struck in my mind that was obscure airport. Next were the loud brash men staring at women like they have never seen them before? And people were cold, unfriendly. Like any naive tourist, we had a chauffeur driven car which took us places. But it was much later that we realized that everything was fixed here. Maybe it was after that we became travelers and not tourists.

But I wasn't totally off-base. Three places that made Udaipur significant for me are the City Palace , the Jag Mandir and the Lake castle in Lake Pichola .There is likewise the Fateh Prakash palace, however I think the Lake Palace is dreamlike, just about a fantasy. Skimming on the transparent blue waters, its so excellent that you wish you could live there for only a night. Cut out of marble, it is an island of adoration, worked in eighteenth century by Maharana Jagat Singh 11. To me, it's a definitive sentimental goal encompassed by the perfect lake Pichola and the Aravalli Mountains. The lake itself is charming as it changes horde tints as you ship down towards Jag Mandir.

It was very amazing when we previously observed it. Gently cut out of marble and mosaic and mixed with blue stones, this was as far as anyone knows a refuge for Prince Khurram, referred to us as Shah Jahan by the Rajput ruler, Maharana Karan Singh. There was no opportunity to think history then as we enabled the magnificence of the spot to soak in. The craftsmanship is astounding as you look at the elephants that appear to look out for the castle.

Lastly the city castle which towers over the Pichola lake. It appeared to be endless as we moved starting with one door then onto the next, starting with one lobby then onto the next. Perpetual cluster of columns, glorious yards, a few galleries ignoring the lake, towers, colorful mirrors and glass, rich carvings, excellent entryways and windows.  it's where you could lose yourself and return in time.

We have stay in 4 stars affordable and luxury hotel in Udaipur where their staff serve the tasty traditional Rajasthani food. We enjoy the most at hotel and next morning check out the hotel and catch the flight from Rana Pratap International Airport, Udaipur.
